What's Happening in There?

Your baby — officially a blastocyst — has burrowed into the lining of your uterus this week. That's implantation, and it's the real start of pregnancy. At just 2mm, it's the size of a poppy seed, but it's already splitting into two groups of cells: one that will become your baby, and one that will become the placenta.

🏥Good to Know

Your body is now pumping out hCG — the hormone a pregnancy test detects. By the end of this week, most home tests will show a positive result. You might notice some light spotting (totally normal — that's just implantation), and your breasts might start feeling tender or heavy. Some people also feel mild cramping.

💡Whoa, Really?

Out of the hundreds of millions of sperm that set off on this journey, only about 200 actually made it close to the egg — and just one got through. That single cell now contains the complete genetic code for an entirely unique human being. Your baby's eye colour, blood type, and even some personality traits were decided in that moment.

🤱This Week's Tip

If you haven't started a prenatal vitamin yet, now's the time — specifically one with at least 400mcg of folic acid. It helps the neural tube (which becomes the brain and spine) form correctly, and that process starts incredibly early. Most pharmacies carry them over the counter, no prescription needed.

🥗 Nutrition This Week

Ginger tea, ginger biscuits, or ginger supplements are worth having on hand — nausea can start as early as Week 4 for some people.

👫 For Your Partner

The positive test is coming. Have a plan for how you both want to respond — whether it's excitement, nerves, or a mix of both — so neither of you feels blindsided by the other's reaction.
